It is assumed that you have read and understood the End User Licence Agreement (EULA) and the Software Licence agreement included in the installation as well as any additional agreements concluded between your organisation, its employees and the reseller.
System requirements
1.     iTech Facilities Management is optimised for Laptops, Netbooks, Notebooks, tablets and desktop personal computers.
2.     Operating systems supported
3.     Screen resolution minimum of 800x600. Be aware that changing your windows screen font size to more than 100% may impact on iTech Facilities Management.
4.     Initial hard drive space of 200MB bearing in mind that the database will increase in size over a period of time due to transactions. Ensure you make provision for storage of photographs and other images you may assign to schedules. Additional space would be required for the storage of files attached to schedules and bookings.
5.     Suitable network infrastructure and bandwidth to accommodate multiple users. Non browser based WI-FI client speeds should not be less than 54Mbps (802.11a) which typically averages around 20Mbps. 802.11b is not suitable.
6.     Internet access to ensure all modules remain updated through automatic updates.
7.     Browser based clients require a minimum of 2Mbps.
8.     To take advantage of live capture (photographs) of Maintenance work, a webcam is required for desktop/laptop devices. Generally tablets have built-in photographing capabilities and therefore nothing extra is required.
9.     iTech Facilities Management offers data drops and grid printing. This functionality requires Microsoft Excel©. Non Windows© based tablets will require a spreadsheet viewing utility/application which are freely available on the various web stores.
10.     iTech Facilities Management system resource requirements do not exceed typical operating system minimums as required by the applicable Windows operating system.
11.     Server resource requirements for browser based clients are dependent on the number of simultaneous users and module usage access.
iTech Facilities Management supports the following architectures:-
The browser/mobile based option is currently in Beta testing.
Cross platform installations
1.     For cross platform device support where you will be providing/hosting your own server, the server computing power requirement depends on the number of browser based (in particular) clients to be hosted.
2.     Cross platform (Windows, Android, OSX) environments (LAN or Cloud) requires the iTech Facilities Management VUI Server (Thinfinity Server) to be installed. Please contact the reseller for assistance in this regard.
3.     You will require Win 8, Win 8.1, Win 10 or Windows Server 2012 or newer.
4.     The server installation components are compatible with both x32 and x64 architectures.
5.     Browsers inherit the credentials as specified in the Thinfinity Server. This is beyond the scope of this user guide.
Windows devices only
5.     The MySQL ODBC 8.0 connector driver is required along with Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 redistributable (x86). These are included in the installation packages. If applicable, follow the installation prompts for these prerequisites. Select Typical if prompted for the installation type of the MySQL ODBC 8.0 connector. These may take a few minutes to install. iTech Facilities Management will not continue to install if the installation of either of these prerequisites fails.
6.     If you receive a Windows protected your PC notification (Win 10), click on More info and then Run anyway.
7.     Windows 10 s-mode may need to be disabled before installing. Follow the instructions at https://support.microsoft.com/en-za/help/4456067/windows-10-switch-out-of-s-mode and if that does not succeed, follow the instructions at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/application-management/sideload-apps-in-windows-10. 8.     If you receive a notification during a major update of the server that the share already exists, select the ignore option.
9.     It is highly recommended that the default install folder for both clients and server instances be left unchanged.
1.     100Mbps (54Mbps minimum) networking speed is recommended for both Ethernet and wireless (WI-FI) connections.
2.     In cloud (internet) based solutions, internet speed should not be less than 2Mbps per device.
Folder permissions (FBM share)
The iTech Facilities Management Server installer will attempt to automatically set the folder permissions and share the FBM resources folder which is installed in the Public Users folder by default.
If this fails, your network administrator (or the user of the device assigned to be the server) will be required to manually share* the FBM resources folder and assign permissions to the various users on the network (if required).
The server installation folder must at least have “Read”, “Write”, “List folder contents”, “Read and execute” and “Modify” permissions for applicable users.
If a user does not have these folder permissions, the database may not be accessible by clients. This will cause the Navigator and other supporting modules to terminate.
Typically the server and clients must be configured as follows(Control Panel...Network and Internet...Ethernet...Change advanced sharing options...Private (current profile)):-
1.     Turn on network discovery
2.     Turn on file and printer sharing
In addition to this, on the server (All networks):-
1.     Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders
You may want to turn off password protected sharing especially if the FBM share is the only resource in the Public Users folder on the server.
If you are using a dedicated server running Windows Server, your network administrator will configure the share accordingly.
Whilst the server resources are installed by default in the Public folder, this can be relocated elsewhere and shared accordingly (See Server Location Utility below).
Certain tasks within iTech Facilities Management requires the addition, replacement and removal of files on the server (e.g. documents assigned to bookings/schedules and images associated with maintenance and project schedules). If user folder permissions are limited, some of these tasks may not be available to the user.
Where automatic updates have not been disabled, upon launching of the Navigator on their device (except Browser based instances), any applicable updates will be downloaded and installed. You will be prompted for permission to perform update checks. Select the "Don't show this again" option at the prompt to prevent the permission request from appearing each time in the future.
Regional settings
For numerous reasons, iTech Facilities Management requires that numbers use the full stop (.) as a decimal symbol.
To change your regional settings, open the Control Panel and navigate or search for the Clock and Region settings.
Select the Change date,time, or number formats category.
Select Additional settings...
Select "." in the Decimal symbol list of options under the Numbers tab.
Select OK (or Apply then OK).
If you change this setting to a comma or apostrophe whilst iTech Facilities Management is in operation, the Navigator and any open modules will terminate automatically.
Server location utility
A server location utility is created during the installation process on both the server and clients.
This resides in the iTech Facilities Management program group on both the server and clients.
Client installations place a FBM Server Locate shortcut on the desktop. In client installations, an option to run the server location utility is checked by default in the last installation dialog.
You can also locate the utility FBM Server Locate in the root of your primary drive (usually C:\) in the iTech Facilities Management folder.
Once the installation is complete, clients must run this setup utility to locate the FBM share (see above).
If the server share (FBM folder located in the Public Users folder on the server) is moved, each client (including the server “client”) will need to run the Server location utility again and point to the new server location. Also see Folder permissions (FBM share) above.
Should security on your device (in particular Win 10) prevent you from browsing (expanding) the network in the Server location utility folder browser, use Windows Explorer and browse to the FBM share, open the shared folder and then click in the address bar and copy the contents and paste into the folder box at the bottom of the folder browser provided by the Server location utility. In some instances, local security policies may prevent browsing or pasting the network share address. Contact your system administrator for assistance in this regard and review https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/security-policy-settings/network-access-restrict-anonymous-access-to-named-pipes-and-shares.
The Server location utility attempts to resolve UAC warnings when attempting to access the web server for updates.
If you receive a warning, follow the detailed steps that follow.
This is not a necessity but it will prevent the warning from showing up.
1.     Select Start then type Internet Options in the Search programs and files field and press Enter.
2.     The Internet Properties dialog will appear. Select the Security tab.
Select Local intranet, then click the Sites button.
3.     Click the Advanced button in the Local intranet dialog box
4.     Type the location of the file that produces the warning. The path could be the mapped network drive you created or a UNC path like \\Ourserver\FBM where “Ourserver” is the network name of the server hosting iTech Facilities Management and “FBM” is the name of the shared folder.
5.     The resultant “Websites” entry will resemble something like file://Ourserver
6.     Click on Add then Close, OK, OK
Some antivirus software and third party firewalls may require you to add the Navigator and other modules to their exceptions list to obviate scanning before the application is launched and to allow them access through the firewall.
If the firewall blocks the Navigator or Alert utility, please allow them access for auto update purposes.
Network administrators may wish to use Active Directory services.
